La Ptite Absinthe du Val de Travers
|
Le Ptite is a classic clear Swiss absinthe which will appeal to all afficionados of La Bleue.
It's produced in the Val de Travers by Gaudentia Persoz, Switzerland's first female absinthe
distiller, and a former producer of clandestine La Bleue. Gaudentia is young, blond, and passionate
about absinthe. Her distillation is based on an 1898, 12-plant recipe that was found, along with a
small alambic, when she and her husband purchased their house in Couvet.
Gaudentia now uses a 50-liter copper alambic that was hand-made for her by her husband Jean-
Michel and the recipe has been updated and modified in traditional la Bleue style to please the
most discerning tastes. Gaudentia's ‘La Ptite’ is an absolutely classic la Bleue, with a rich full
mouthfeel and fresh aromas of wormwood, anise and mint reminiscent of the Alpine meadows
that surround Couvet.
This is an artisanal, hand-made product with very limited production, so occasional stock
shortages are anticipated. To avoid disappointment, we'd strongly suggest trying a bottle of this
wonderful La Bleue without further delay!

La Ptite is a small scale family enterprise, true to the artisanal traditions of the Val de Travers.
Gaudentia Persoz - "Gaudi" - is the distiller - a former clandestine producer, she's now one of
the limited number of Val de Travers distillers with a legal right to make absinthe.
She's assisted by her husband Jean Michel - "Jeami" - (below), who handmade the 50l copper
alambic used to make La Ptite (right).

Absinthe 'Clandestine' is an authentic La Bleue made in Couvet, Val-de-Travers, Switzerland, the birthplace of absinthe.
Its creator Claude-Alain Bugnon was the first clandestine distiller granted legal status by the Swiss government in the spring of
2005. For years he had been responsible for a certain quantity of bootlegged absinthe that brought so much attention and status to
this small region. His 'Clandestine' has been and is still considered by many to be the best Swiss La Bleue available today.
Clandestine is fresh as an Alpine meadow with bright anise, wildflower and wormwood aromas, a touch of honey and a refreshing,
long taste. This absinthe is left uncolored and clear (the bottle is blue) and will take on a milkly opalescence when cold water is
added. It is said that Swiss "La Bleue" style absinthes got their name because blue reflections can sometimes be seen in the bright
white cloudiness of the louche.

Claude Alain's custom designed distilling apparatus
at his premises in Couvet, a former butcher shop!.
The alambics each have a capacity of 145 litres, and
produce 95 litres of finished absinthe. They are
single-walled, rather than duplicating the bain-marie
system more commonly used in France.
Claude-Alain feels that the fiercer heat gives better
extraction of the herbs.
Ideal for tasting, the 20cl bottle of La Ptite is sealed with a swing-top closure,
a popular option in the clandestine era, when a corking machine or
screw-cap applicator might have attracted the unwelcome attention of the
authorities.
